McClure's Spring Trade Show 2006

We held a spring trade show at the Castle Green Hotel In Kendal on 23rd March. The exhibition was a big success with around 40 stands of our suppliers displaying special offers and new and exciting products which have entered the market. Customers who came got some really good deals. This was the first time that we have held our own exhibition for a long time. We have been well pleased with the response to the show and plan to do another in the future.

We would like to give a big thank you to all our suppliers who supported us and also all our customers who made an effort to visit the exhibition and make the show a success.

McClure's shop re-fit

The Cash and carry has had a shop refit over the past few months. Why not come and see the changes and visit our cash and carry on 11 college road windermere. The shop re-fit was completed by Andy Rollins cash and carry manager and others who had to race against time to complete it minimising disruption to McClure's busy working week. The process seems to have been a sucess and made better use of space to enable us to provide even more products for our customers

Bill McClure classic golf day

The 7 th Bill McClure classic was held at Windermere Golf club, Windermere on Tuesday 14 th June 2005. It was third time lucky that the event took place having been cancelled twice in September and October 2004 due to bad weather. It was a hugely successful day once again with 96 golfers taking part playing to the stable ford four rules. After an enjoyable round of golf the teams were joined by McClure's management and friends for an evening meal, entertainment, and prize giving. McClure's have now promised to make the day into an annual event in memory of the late Bill McClure. The photo shows the winning team being presented with their prize by special guest Mary Reckitt and Keith McClure (Managing Director, W McClure ltd), from right to left: John Taylor (Unilever), Keith McClure (Managing Director), David Nicholson (Holbeck Ghyll Hotel), Mary Reckitt , and Thomas Noblett (Langdale Chase Hotel) and not included in picture is Ken Birchall (Windermere Hydro Hotel).

Bill McClure 1911 - 2004

On 31st December 2004 the founder of our company, Bill McClure, sadly passed away. Bill started out in business in 1945, selling freshly caught fish at Kendal market and went on to open a string of retail shops in Kendal, Bowness, Windermere and Grange-over-Sands, before starting the Wholesale business that is McClures today.

He was a very special man and he succeeded at a time when only those born with a 'silver spoon' could expect to build up a business from scratch. A true entrepreneur, he knew the meaning of hard work and he created the foundation stone that the McClure family has built on.

Bill was fortunate enough to enjoy a long and happy life and it gave him a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction to see the company he founded grow from strength to strength and to see the next McClure generation coming into the business.

Throughout the last 60 years, the principles that were important to him when he started have never changed and have always remained at the heart of the company - integrity, hard work and striving to do the very best for his customers.

Although it is sad that Bill will not be here for the Diamond Anniversary of the company, he has left us in the knowledge that his founding principles will never be forgotten.

Bill McClure will be sadly missed by his family, staff and customers alike, but will be remembered with respect by all who knew him. All the McClure family would like to thank all those who have sent their best wishes and support at this sad time.

A chapter in Cumbrian history has been brought to a sad close.
