Seventeen budding young chefs from schools and colleges throughout Cumbria and Lancashire will be battling it out at The Lakes School, Troutbeck Bridge on Thursday 7th February in a bid for three of them to go forward to the North West Regional Final on 16th March at Kendal College.
The competition is open to 16 -18 year olds in full time education. It is organised by local Rotary Clubs and sponsored nationally by Filippo Berio Oils with McClures Caterers sponsoring the February event at the Lakes School. The judges will be Richard Booth, Head Chef at Lakeside Hotel and Graham Gelder of McClures.
The students have two hours to prepare a three course meal for two people costing not more than £20. This year has seen an unprecedented interest in the competition, with Rotary Clubs staging ‘cook offs’ to decide who should go forward. The Lakes School with its newly refurbished kitchens, is one of the very few venues large enough to stage such an event. Shaun Ashworth, the Rotary District Youth Chair said “ This is a fantastic contest and one of the highlights of the Rotary Youth Calendar. If previous years are anything to go by, then we are in for a treat as the meals produced are of an exceptionally high standard and would do justice to many fine dining restaurants”
